What led you to apply for an internship at Port of Aberdeen?
My passion for the HR field, coupled with my pursuit of a CIPD accredited MSc in HR management at RGU, led me to continuously look for chances to develop in this area. Discovering this opportunity was serendipitous, offering me the chance to gain hands-on experience in one of Aberdeen’s oldest businesses. What truly captivated me, however, was the Port’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and diversity. The prospect of contributing to a historic organisation with a forward-thinking approach aligns with my professional aspirations, making this internship an ideal avenue for personal and career growth.
What skills or experiences do you hope to gain from this internship?
I am supporting the People & Culture team to design a comprehensive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy for the Port and as such I am hoping to sharpen my skills in people analytics as well as master the invaluable people skills, so crucial in the world of HR. I am also diving into diverse policies and best practices for DEI, wellbeing and overall HR.
What do you hope to contribute to Port of Aberdeen during your internship?
I am excited to be involved in a crucial phase at Port of Aberdeen, where there is a strong focus on People & Culture. I am working towards contributing to the development of a strategic plan aimed at fostering a more diverse and inclusive workforce. This involves conducting a thorough analysis of our workforce composition and proposing recommendations for the inclusion of various wellbeing and learning & development initiatives. These efforts are geared towards creating a lasting impact on the organisations overall dynamics.
Where do you see yourself in your career five years from now?
I have been particularly interested in the people analytics and AI and how HR can leverage these tools to bring value and facilitate So I am most definitely seeing myself in this area. However, I am keeping an open mind and will see what the future may unfold.
