Port Profiles: Magdalena Wojtalewski
Meet Magdalena Wojtalewski, Port of Aberdeen’s Senior Accountant who joined the port in 2021.
A passion for numbers
Growing up, Magdalena always envisioned herself in a career related to finance or IT, given her love for numbers. Originally from Poland, Magdalena moved to the UK in 2007 to pursue an HND in Accounting.
Her passion for numbers set the foundation for her career, and over the years, Magdalena has held various roles in finance, gaining experience across various industries such as motor servicing, oil and gas, and the food sector.
Implementing positive change
Magdalena’s finance career dream has been realised at the port, where she oversees the Creditors Ledger function, contributing to the production of monthly management accounts and managing the monthly payroll. She enjoys the variety her position offers, keeping her job interesting and fulfilling
Magdalena is also actively involved in exciting projects like implementing a new financial system, Business Central, and an expenses management app. These projects have enhanced efficiency, and she’s now focused on automating the Accounts Payable system to further streamline financial processes.
Sailing towards chartered status
Despite some of the more repetitive tasks in finance, Magdalena finds motivation and growth by working alongside her knowledgeable colleagues at the port. She values the port's supportive and flexible environment, which she describes as inclusive, and credits it for helping her in her ongoing pursuit of a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) professional qualification.
When advising new recruits, Magdalena stresses the importance of being yourself and bringing a positive, idea-driven approach to Port of Aberdeen. If given the chance to switch roles, she would opt for a position in the port’s Marine Department, drawn by the adventurous and challenging nature of their work, especially with Scotland’s unpredictable weather.
Life beyond the port
Outside of work, Magdalena’s main priority is her family, particularly her two boys. She enjoys spending quality time with them, whether through outdoor activities or travelling together. In her free time, she also focuses on her wellbeing, often going to the gym to stay fit.
