Meet Jade McLennan: Port of Aberdeen's Apprentice People & Culture Administrator

Q: What does your current role at Port of Aberdeen involve?

A:  I am the apprentice within the People & Culture department, currently working towards completing my SVQ Business and Administration SCQF level 6. My role is to provide administration associated with recruitment, onboarding new employees, training course bookings and provide general administrative support.

Q: What led you to this career?

A:  I felt a bit lost on what I would like to do. I left school and went to study social care, after my first year it made me realise this wasn’t the career I wanted to pursue. I then went into caring for the elderly which I loved at the time but knew it would never be a forever thing and at the right time the job at the port came up. I loved the idea of the apprenticeship and haven’t looked back since. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and feel that I’ve finally found the right path for me.

Q: What do you like most about working at Port of Aberdeen?

A: Everyone has been so supportive and welcoming since I started, and I feel proud to be part of a busy and growing organisation. There’s always something new to learn in the early stage of my career. My team is great, and it feels good to be able to contribute.

Q: What are three words to describe Port of Aberdeen?

A: Exciting, successful, encouraging

Q: What advice would you give to new Port of Aberdeen recruits or prospective candidates?

A: For new recruits or prospective candidates, my advice is to stay open-minded and explore the variety of roles available. I didn’t realise how many opportunities there were until I started, there’s something for everyone.
