Meet Louise Tulloch- HR Intern

3

"This internship presents a great opportunity to better my data analysis skills within the context of HR metrics."

What led you to apply for an internship at Port of Aberdeen?

Having graduated earlier this year in Business and Management and Public Policy, I was very keen to apply my degree knowledge in a professional setting and gain real-world experience. Throughout my studies, I held a particular interest in HR and the way in which work within the department can positively impacts employee’s day-to-day life. As I am from Shetland and my family have a background in maritime work there, this internship felt like the perfect opportunity to combine both my personal and academic interests.

What skills or experiences do you hope to gain from this internship?

I am eager to develop a foundation in HR practices, particularly in areas relating to performance indicators and the interaction this has with organisational success. This internship presents a great opportunity to better my data analysis skills within the context of HR metrics. Additionally, I hope to better my communication and interpersonal skills through practical interactions within a professional HR environment. Overall, I aim to gain hands-on experience that allows me to contribute meaningfully to HR strategies here at the Port of Aberdeen, whilst understanding their organisational impact.

What do you hope to contribute to Port of Aberdeen during your internship?

I aspire to bring fresh perspectives and a proactive approach toward the development of the current performance reporting methods. Drawing from my recent academic background, I aim to offer innovative ideas in enhancing the HR metric reports to match industry best practice. Additionally, I am enthusiastic about contributing to the team in driving meaningful improvements in HR processes and fostering a positive work environment.

Where do you see yourself in your career five years from now?

In five years’ time, I hope to have gained substantial professional experience in roles that directly impact the well-being of employees within organisations. I aim to have made meaningful contributions to enhancing working environments, possibly delving into policy areas related to labour regulations. I am enthusiastic about gaining diverse industry exposure to broaden my expertise and ensure a well-rounded understanding, ultimately aiming for a career path that allows me to continuously improve workplace conditions and positively influence working policies.
