Driving diversification for a prosperous future
As the UK’s oldest existing business, Port of Aberdeen has evolved through the ages from textiles and shipbuilding to the advent of oil and gas. Today, the port is diversifying its business to deliver sustainable economic growth and drive the energy transition.
For the last 50 years the port has supported the North Sea, now we’re diversifying across energy, trade, and tourism to support the transition from fossil fuels to renewables.
“Diversifying across energy, trade, and tourism is essential to ensure we continue to grow and create prosperity for generations.”
Bob Sanguinetti, CEO, Port of Aberdeen, said: “We have been at the heart of Aberdeen for almost 900 years, evolving with the city as its industries ebbed and flowed. Now, we are driving the energy transition and decarbonisation with our customers.
“Diversifying across energy, trade, and tourism is essential to ensure we continue to grow and create prosperity for generations.”
With South Harbour officially open for over a year, the expanded Port of Aberdeen has unlocked significant opportunities across energy, trade, and tourism, while also fostering diversification in renewables, decommissioning, and cargo handling.
Recent investments will further increase Port of Aberdeen’s importance for the country while leveraging its strategic position to reduce emissions and foster growth. However, collaboration remains key, with the port working closely with government and private sector partners to achieve its ambitions.
By championing diversification, Port of Aberdeen is continuing its role as an economic powerhouse, while ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
