AID Asol 1

The record for the longest vessel to berth in Port of Aberdeen was broken today (17 July 2024) for the second time this summer when AIDAsol entered the port’s South Harbour on a stop-over on a 12-night British Isles and Norwegian Cruise.

On her maiden call into port, AIDA Cruises’ 253.3-metre AIDAsol beats the current record set by the 245-metre Ambience on 14 June, but is set to be surpassed on 26 July by the 290-metre long Costa Favolosa.

“The visit by AIDAsol will be yet another highlight of a record-breaking cruise season for Port of Aberdeen.”

Roddy James
Chief Commercial Officer, Port of Aberdeen

Roddy James, Chief Commercial Officer, Port of Aberdeen, said: “The visit by AIDAsol will be yet another highlight of a record-breaking cruise season for Port of Aberdeen.

“Our tidally unrestricted, deepwater South Harbour and safe, efficient navigation and flexible berthing options, make Aberdeen the ideal port-of-call for large cruise ships.”

The 71,304 gross tonne vessel, with capacity for 2,194 passengers, berthed on Balmoral Quay in the port’s South Harbour at midday, with guests and crew transferred into the city centre and further afield on a number of shore excursions including Dunnottar Castle, Old Aberdeen walking tour, Castle Fraser, Royal Lochnagar Distillery and Balmoral Castle, and Crathes Castle. Guests additionally travelled independently into the city.

The ship will depart Aberdeen at 8.00pm on Thursday 18 July for Scrabster in northern mainland Scotland, before crossing the North Sea to Alesund, Norway.

Under the CruiseAberdeenshire banner, Port of Aberdeen and VisitAberdeenshire continue to actively market the North East region as an attractive cruise destination, with a presence at Seatrade Cruise Med 2024 in Malaga, Spain on the Cruise Britain stand (360), on 11 and 12 September 2024.
